Difference between agile and scrum

difference between agile and scrum

What is the difference between agile and scrum?

Agile software development refers to a group of software development methodologies based on Agile principles and values defined in Agile Manifesto. It requires collaboration between self-organizing and cross-functional teams. Agile development enables the team to work faster and smarter. It is a method that promotes a disciplined project management process that encourages continuous inspection and adaption.

Agile also brings out a leadership practice that encourages self-organization, teamwork, and accountability.  Scrum and Kanban are two of the most widely used Agile methodologies.

Scrum is a one of the light weight of agile framework. Scrum is a fast, adaptable, flexible, and effective agile framework that is structured to deliver releasable and valuable increment to customer every sprint.

This framework is kept as small as possible. It helps scrum teams to continuously improve their product and processes, while working within the framework. The product owner in scrum team is responsible to maximize the value of product and the developers are accountable to translate the product backlog items into a releasable increment. Hope now you would have understood the difference between agile and scrum.

In 1993, Jeff Sutherland and his team at Easel Corporation created the Scrum process to be used in software development processes by combining the concepts of object-oriented development, iterative development and incremental, empirical process control,  software processes and productivity improvement, as well as the development of complex and dynamic systems.

Scrum methodology is used mainly for software development, but other sectors like sales, marketing, manufacturing, HR teams are also implementing this methodology in their organisational models which helps them to organize their work in an easy way.
